What is Mini Digital TV

Mini Digital TV is one of those great technologies that has been developed quite recently and is related to the popularity of digital television in the wake of the change over from analog television signals to digital broadcasts.  So what is it I hear you say!  Mini Digital TV refers to both the process of receiving a digital signal and displaying this signal on a device such as a laptop computer or a portable television and also to the hardware that is required to make this happen.  This hardware which is required for mini digital television can be in the form of a USB stick or Express Card kit which plugs into the device which will be used to view the digital content.

A mini digital TV device contains a few important features which allows the device to capture, decode and display the digital content on screen.  To do this the mini digital TV device must have at least one tuner, an antenna and software to be able to receive, decode and broadcast the signal directly onto a device such as a computer.  As this technology has developed the hardware associated with mini digital TV has become smaller and more compact.  These small devices which can be as small as a standard USB thumb drive contain a miniature tuner which can be used to receive local television signals and also local radio broadcasts.

Regardless of whether you choose to use a USB sized receiver or an Express Card both of these technologies use similar software which scans and saves the available local broadcasts of both television channels as well as local radio.  Using a computer as a way of viewing the signals also gives you the option of recording shows to the hard drive of your computer for viewing later.

Other great features of watching digital television through your computer include being able to pause and rewind live TV broadcasts.  This feature can be a great way to replay something you may have missed or to replay a goal or score in a sporting match.  Mini digital TV also gives you the ability  to record TV content for playback on other devices such as iPods and iPads while also giving you access to many of the new digital channels that have recently become available.  Recording your favourite TV shows means that you can watch your shows when it suits and also fast forward through those annoying adds.
