The Evolution of HD Digital TV

Posted Under: HD Television

Television in its most basic form has been around for just under 80 years and since then has continued to develop and change with the end result the technology that we have today.  The development of the technology behind the television has seen TV pictures go from fuzzy and blurry black and white to the clean crisp high definition digital pictures that we enjoy today.  The evolution of high definition television is one of the most significant milestones in the development of television and television technology and began with research and development in Japan.

The Japanese were busy developing the idea of HDTV in the early 1970s however it was the late 1980s before this idea was at a stage where it could be demonstrated to interested parties.  In all it took just over 35 years of development to get the HDTV we experience today while watching TV in a form that was suitable for the consumer market place.

So why do we need to change over the HDTV?  One of the main reasons for the change to HD digital television is the improved picture quality and the increased clarity of the sound.  The Digital signal when viewed through a HDTV offers are far superior picture and sound than the analog signal due to the increase in the resolution for the digital signal.  The digital signal and the televisions that we have today offer the viewer an unequalled picture quality and the development of HDTV is perhaps the greatest improvement in television since its original development.

Currently consumers have a wide choice when it comes to HD digital TV.  Many households have embraced the new technology on the market in an effort to be ready for the change from analog to digital.  Due to consumer demand for wide screen HD digital televisions the technology has become cheaper and companies have been able to sink more money into the development of the next generation of television technology.

The future of HD television is looking bright with many electronics companies such as Panasonic and Sony investing heavily into newer, greener technology.  Recently a few companies have released HD digital televisions that are 3D enabled and as the amount of 3D content increases it is likely that this technology will be the next big thing for this industry.  Currently the technology is only available on specific televisions while the viewer wears specially designed 3D glasses however as this technology develops 3D maybe come as popular as HD digital TV.
