How to Choose the Right Widescreen TV Size

Posted Under: Widescreen TV

When it comes to buying a widescreen television bigger is not always better.  The size of the widescreen TV is important as it is possible to have a television that is far too big for a room.  There are a number of considerations that need to be followed to ensure that the TV you are looking to buy will be the right size for the room.  The size of the TV is important as it needs to fit in the room in such a way that it is comfortable to watch.  Having a TV that is too large or a room that is small and you have to sit close to the television creates some problems so as with other pieces of furniture the size and position of the TV needs to be measured and the best size will depend on the conditions of the surrounds.

Before heading out to the store it is a good idea to first measure the space which you have set aside for the TV.  When measuring remember to leave room for other electrical equipment and ensure that you have space around the TV as well.  If you are replacing an old television with a new one, measuring the screen size of this TV can help in deciding what size the new television should be.

Another consideration when deciding on the size of the TV for the room is the weight of the new television.  Plasma and LCD widescreen TVs are quite heavy so you will need to consider how much weight your TV stand can accommodate or how much weight a wall bracket can hold.

When considering the distance between the viewing area and the television screen it is important to measure the distance in the room.  The rule of thumb when it comes to best viewing distance from the screen is two to three times the diagonal length of the TV screen.  This is important as sitting too close to the screen will give you a less than optimal viewing experience as will sitting too far away from the screen.  Measure the distance from the viewing area to where the TV will be positioned as this will give you a very accurate measure of what size TV you should get.  Remember that the smaller the viewing distance the smaller the television and you hopefully won’t go wrong when you make your purchase.
