For people who don’t have the money to invest in a Blu-ray player or a PlayStation 3 then there is also the option of purchasing a DVD player that has a video upconversion.  These players are designed to upconvert the DVD video to a much higher resolution, one that is closer to the resolution of the widescreen HD TV.  This conversion does have its limitations and is not quite as good as using a high definition DVD player such as a Blu-ray player which is already in HD and requires no altering.

If you are looking to get the best out of your widescreen HDTV the best option is to invest a little money into your accessories such as the DVD player.  Upgrading your DVD player to one that has a HD component will give you the best results when viewing your widescreen HDTV.
